Seems like a very large number of folks are hearing "Stage 3" or "Stage 5" Turbos these days, and think they have hit the jackpot with all the power to come. We are seeing more and more of this, 500-600hp capable turbos being claimed at 800-950hp!
All in all it is becoming a bit of a headache, especially in that most of them are made from junk Alibaba/China fold cores and on their best day are a "Stage 2" capable of maybe 600-650whp on an extremely friendly dyno while on the verge of destruction. Realistically these OE China cores are best suited for the sub 550whp range, assuming real world numbers and longevity means anything to anyone.
So just curious, can anyone out there even tell the difference in turbo components these days by looking at pictures, or are we beyond that level of comprehension in this platform anymore?
