Hello, my names Michael, Im 22 and from sunny uk. Im new to the forum but and hope to stick around for a while and hopefully meet a few cool peoples.
I have a e91 335i which I bought for cheap because the previous owner thought the engine had blown up however it was just the auxiliary belt 🤣
I decided I wanted to do a little overhaul to sort out little oil leaks and to map it which has now turned into a mahoossive project thats drained my wallet but I will get this project done. Saying that Ive never worked on a bmw engine so indepthly so Im really going at this blind and am finding out new things every where I look.
So at the moment I am at the stage where Ive dropped my motor and stripped and inspected, it had 70k on the clock and the oil didnt look like it had been changed In a while but all the main and big end bearings are in very good condition. Pistons and bore didnt have any scoring and was good, Im going to leave the main bearing and swap the big end out with king bearings, fcp h beam forged rods, je forged pistons set and Ive also had the cylinder head ported and polished by my work colleague whos an ex motogp engine builder. Hes also assisting me with this build but hes too exploring uncharted territory.
Its a bit of a budget build as Im only on apprentice wage but I always figure out ways to get things done. I found a lot of the bits second hand
Vargo stage 2+ hybrids
VTT Silicon outlet hose
First racing 2 silicon inlet hoses
Bigger inter cooler, unknown brand
VTT charge pipe
More silicon joints for the inter cooler to replace the factory rubber ones.
Je forged pistons
Fcp h beam forged rods
ARP rod bolts
King big end bearings
Full engine gasket rebuild set
Cam chain and guide
Im currently waiting for the pistons to arrive so I can put the engine back together and get on with the project.
Now Im sure theres so many things I havent thought about or planned which was my reason for this post, to seek advice and recommendation on how I should proceed with this build. The goal is for is to be fast do it all car, take the mum and siblings to the beach with the dog, bomb through some country roads, visit many European countries and to be used as a work van 😂 Ill post some pictures up tomorrow of some of the pretty bits Ive got waiting to go one
