General: Replace N54 car with what? Baddest car under $40k?

I've had the E90 for almost a decade and the chassis is really starting to show it's age. I work from home now and don't need 3 cars (E90 335xi with RBs, E91 wagon, and the wife's 04 Sequoia). No kids yet.

What would you get for under $40k? Considering power potential/tunability, looks, fun factor, reliability, etc

I prefer AWD. Any B58 car seem really attractive, and STRONGLY considering a 2018 M240i in Sunset Orange (only had black and gray cars). Not considering the 340i as I don't want to just repeat the build with a newer version. If I could get a M340i wagon that would be end of story.

I'd kill for a GTR but even the cheapest examples are over $60k and the cost of parts/repairs scares me a bit.

Also a little worried that cheap/easy power in the N54 has spoiled me.
