Whats up guys. So we completely sold out of Stage 2 batch one quite a while ago and have finished shipping here recently. During this time we have learned a lot from not only the betas but also from testing of prototypes etc. We took all this information and put it into the design of batch 2. What we have coming we are 100% sure will please everyone.
New Turbine: First off we had a lot of people saying our turbine wheel was too small. We went with the turbine we did because we tested bigger turbines and the gains seemed minimal but in the end with these housings the bottom line is you can never have enough flow out of them. For batch 2 we are using a TD04L custom design turbine wheel. This is the same size turbine used in RB turbos except he uses the original 12 blade wheels designed in the 90's. In more modern designs the most efficient turbos are using 9 blade wheels (GTX, EFR, Etc). So we contacted our manufacture and had them custom make us a TD04L in a 9 blade design which has a much more aggressive profile and will provide superior exhaust flow over a 12 blade turbine wheel.
Billet GTX compressor wheels: We are also now offering billet GTX compressor wheels in our stage 2 turbos (stage 1 as well). These are the impressive 11 blade compressor wheels you see in the Garrett GTX lineup which when swapped out for the stock cast wheel have seen to add 20% more airflow over the entire range when compared to a typical cast 6X6 wheel design with no changes to anything else. What this means is, the turbos will move more air at the same shaft speed as with a cast wheel. This allows the turbos to work less hard and provide the same airflow, a win win for the N54 as we already work the snot out of these turbos, speaking of working the turbos less hard, these turbines and compressor wheels are both lighter then the 12 blade and the cast compressor wheel meaning less exhaust energy is needed to spool the turbos, again reducing strain.
Pricing: More good news, even though the new turbine is costing us more we decided to keep the base price of the turbos the same, $2499. The thrust upgrade is of course still available and highly recommended, and the GTX compressor option is $400. Keep in mind, if you do not want the GTX wheels batch 2's will still be a kick ass turbo and provide plenty of flow for 500WHP+ with the right tune, fueling, and boost. The GTX option will just get you there without spinning them as hard to do so, and should get you even higher when pushed until back pressure ends the fun.
Pre-orders: This time around we are making close to 50 sets of turbos and are already taking orders, we have about 15 sets already spoken for. In order to get on the list we need a 50% deposit to hold your place. Please email directly tony@vargasturbo.com to place a pre-order.
Lead time: We are already well under way with production and expect to be shipping in 60-90 days. Parts have started showing up and we are moving along nicely.
Bimmer Fest East: We will be sharing a booth with PTF at Bimmer Fest East this year and will have all batch 2 wheels on display as well as out N55 wheels and some other stuff. There will also be a promotion in place that any pre-orders made at Bimmer Fest will get 10% off the price of the turbos. Were hoping to see all you guys out there!
Note: Current Stage 2 owners. If you want to upgrade to batch 2 please drop us an email and we can work with you on a buy back program and a discount on the upgrade.
Here are a few pics of what to expect..:)
First 2: Couple of GTX CHRA's
Next 2: completed GTX prototypes
Next 1: 9 blade vs 12 blade
Bottom 3: we stay stacking. Cart of housings, and double layer of housings going out to be machined
